The Deli for my Belly
Coppell Deli is an institution in Coppell, Texas. The location is a little hard to find and has a small parking lot, but the food they serve is large! I went there today with no expectations and came out thoroughly satisfied. This place is an old school deli/diner, in a new school world located in the middle of Coppell, next to Twisted Root and down the street from Hard 8 BBQ. With those staples around it, I think it may be over looked but should not be slept on.
The atmosphere was friendly and casual. The diner esthetic brings you back to a time long forgotten but one still sought after. Back when gas was cheap and the food was too - and delicious. Coppell Deli did not disappoint. As I typically do, when I got up to the counter to order I asked, “What’s the best thing on the menu?” It was suggested I get a burger. Seems standard in a place like this I thought, though my mind was wondering about their gyro plate or breakfast plates. So, I ordered the mushroom, swiss and bacon burger. I got my drink and took a seat with a little number to place at my table. It was nostalgic.
The wait time wasn’t bad. Took maybe 10-15 minutes to get my food and boy was I surprised. The burger was huge and the tots, golden brown. The patty also completely covered the bun. I was in awe. Luckily, I was hungry. I went in on that burger like it was my last meal. The mushrooms and swiss were plentiful. The lettuce, onion and tomato were perfect compliments. The burger as a whole was fantastic. Expertly cooked and not dry but still juicy as well. The tots were crispy on the the outside and tender on the inside. Paired with some more ketchup for perfect bites. Needless to say, I ate everything. This is another place to which I will be returning. I cannot wait to try more of their menu and dive more into the Coppell Deli!
